Artist's Description

The Coquina Rocks at Washington Oaks Gardens State Park in Palm Coast, Florida were visible on a warm winter day as the Atlantic Ocean sent waves crashing into them. This image has been converted to black and white from a color capture. Sometimes sand covers most of these park rock formations making them hard to see.. A long exposure technique smoothed out the waves in this image. Coquina rocks are sedimentary rock that is composed either wholly or almost entirely of the transported, abraded, and mechanically-sorted fragments of the shells of mollusks, trilobites, brachiopods, or other invertebrates. The term coquina comes from the Spanish word for "cockle" and "shellfish".

About Art Cole

Art Cole

Welcome to Art Cole's Photography. As a photographer Art has a passion for photographing all types of subject matter, but gravitates towards Nature Photography. He has shot digitally since 2000 and enjoys taking advantage of this dynamic photographic medium and uses degrees in Commercial and Studio Art as a foundation for the images he captures. He also loves to take advantage of the many photographic opportunities that exist in the Washington DC Metro area in which he currently resides. Although he shoots a great deal in the DC area he will from time to time venture out of the region to discover and capture new dynamic images.
